Six ways to use ReaderTube for your saved learning videos
Practical reading habits for talks, tutorials, research and lectures: overview, transcript, source checking, read/archive and saved highlights with Pro.
ReaderTube is for people who learn from YouTube and prefer reading. These six situations describe ways to use an overview and transcript without assuming every video is available or that reading takes a fixed amount of time.
1. Decide which saved talk deserves attention
Choose a video relevant to something you are learning. Read its overview when available, then decide whether to open the transcript, keep it for later or archive it. You do not have to finish your entire backlog to make a useful decision about one item.
2. Read a technical explanation in context
Use the overview to find the structure of a tutorial or conference talk. Open the transcript for the explanation around a point you need. Check commands, code and important details against the original video before using them; generated text can contain mistakes.
3. Prepare a research note
Read the argument in an interview or presentation, then inspect the surrounding transcript. Keep the original link, creator and relevant timestamp in your own note. Verify a quotation in the recording before citing it.
4. Study a lecture at your own pace
Read the overview to identify the topics, then spend more attention on the transcript where you need it. Write a question or explanation in your own words. With Pro, save useful passages as highlights attached to the reading for later review.
5. Build a regular reading routine
Choose material from connected channels and playlists or add a video link. A Google connection may be required to retrieve video details. Set aside time to read what is available; processing depends on availability and demand. Mark items read or archive them as you finish deciding what to keep.
6. Return to a reading you kept
Search the library for videos, channels and playlists, using a title or creator to find the item. Open the overview and transcript again. With Pro, revisit saved highlights attached to that reading. Library search does not search across transcript passages.
